Regenerative Economy
Entrepreneurial development has the potential to have a positive effect on nature, society, and the economy. In a project with the Institute for Economy and the Environment at the University of St. Gallen (IWÖ-HSG), we are developing tools to support companies on their way to such sustainable business models and thus accelerate the transition to a regenerative economy.
To thrive in the middle and long term, both enterprises and society need a stable foundation: a healthy planet. At the same time, companies play a pivotal role in maintaining this vital foundation. Facing several global crises, we are taking a closer look at how entrepreneurial pioneers are paving the way by going one step further: they not only reduce negative influences but also positively contribute to restoring environmental and societal resources. This is the basic idea behind the regenerative economy.
Conference: Tackling the Shift to a Regenerative Economy
On 19 June 2024, SDSN Switzerland and the Institute of Economy and the Environment at the University of St. Gallen hosted a conference on regenerative economy. The conference was supported by B-LAB Switzerland, the UN Global Compact Network Switzerland, and Purpose Schweiz as partners. We were particularly pleased to have one of Switzerland’s most successful entrepreneurs sharing his thoughts with us: André Hoffmann, Vice Chairman of Roche, environmentalist and philanthropist (here you can find a short video statement from him).
In our Co-Creation Labs, impactful leaders, visionary thinkers, leading scientists, and personalities from thriving companies met for mutual learning and inspiration. We are happy to share a summary of the result with you. You can also find some video statements and further information on the event page.
