Working together for transformation – Newsletter August 2025
How can genuine, effective transformation be achieved? This is the question at the heart of SDSN Switzerland’s work. Conventional project-based approaches often fall short, failing to lead to deep, structural change.
Transformation calls for deep-level change strategies that have long-term impact, shift behaviours, transform institutions, and reshape systems. Such strategies rely on networks, orchestrating organisations, and learning through experimental action.
The concept of small wins can be a particularly powerful lever in this context. Transformation does not occur through one grand solution, but through a series of small, tangible successes. By strategically connecting small wins, collectively scaling what works, and embracing failure as a vital component of cross-sectoral, long-term learning, this approach lays the groundwork for systemic transformation over time.
SDSN Switzerland is applying these concepts to its orchestrating role in #AvenirAlimentaire, a collective initiative for the sustainable transformation of the Swiss food system.
For the first time, SDSN Switzerland is introducing ProjectTogether’s proven collective action approach to Switzerland and adapts it to local context – with support from the German organization itself. Collective action enables cross-sectoral collaboration and continuous learning toward shared goals. This serves to strengthen networks, foster knowledge exchange across sectors, and co-develop strategically integrated solutions for the ultimate dismantling of unsustainable structures – all core principles of effective transformation.
The knowledge and concrete practices generated in the #AvenirAlimentaire initiative are being systematically documented and made available to SDSN Switzerland’s members and partners. We firmly believe that transformation succeeds when we take responsibility together -with courage, perseverance, and clear purpose. We look forward to all the steps ahead, taken in partnership.
SDSN Switzerland brings knowledge into action. As a network, we collaborate with our members and partners on collective solutions in five key areas of impact:
– Leadership for the SDGs
– Food systems
– Regenerative economy
– Living Spaces: sustainable habitats
– Knowledge transfer between practice, science, and policy
We firmly believe that transformation succeeds when we take responsibility together -with courage, perseverance, and clear purpose. We look forward to all the steps ahead, taken in partnership.
Best wishes,
Janet Hering and Carole Küng
